Child Safety - Car Seat Safety Checks
Every three minutes a child dies on the world’s roads – that approximately 500 children every day. Thousands more are disabled or injured each day. If children were more protected in vehicles, some of these deaths and injuries would be prevented.
The good news is that vehicle child safety restraint is up. The amount of people using restraints rose from 82 percent in 2004 to 89 percent in 2008.
OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center staff is dedicated to making sure families in our community are using the child restraints properly to insure the safety of our children. Trained professionals are available to check car seats and to determine whether or not they are installed properly.
OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center offers free child passenger safety checks from 3 to 7 p.m. every second Wednesday of the month from October 14, 2009, through March 10, 2010. at Lifeline Ambulance, 318 Roxbury Road, Rockford.
Parents who are concerned about the proper installation of their child's car seat are invited to cal815-227-2323 for a reserved time.
A certified car seat technician will check the car seats in the parents' vehicles and provide education about correct installation and the proper way the child should be placed in the seat.
