Kyphoplasty
Kyphoplasty
Kyphoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that stabilizes spinal fractures, significantly reducing pain and often partially realigning the spine, so patients don't stoop too much.
During the procedure, a neurosurgeon creates a small pathway into the fractured bone. A small, orthopedic balloon is guided through the instrument into the vertebra and carefully inflated to raise the collapsed vertebra. Once the vertebra is in the correct position, the balloon is deflated and removed, creating a cavity within the vertebral body. The cavity is filled with a bone cement to support the surrounding bone and prevent further collapse.
Most patients spend one night in the hospital and then are able to go home.
